Kris Griffing

Journeyman Laborer/Operator & Owner

Kris Griffing started his career by becoming a double journeyman through the AGC Apprenticeship Program, both as a laborer and an operator. Entering the programs during the economic downturn and housing market collapse in 2008, Kris was able to find training, guidance and stability during otherwise tumultuous times.

“I realized that the tape measure is on the same on both sides of the equation” Griffing said. “I wanted to learn what it was like on both sides of the table, so I took the opportunity to do both residential and commercial work.”

After completing his apprenticeships, Kris has now returned as an instructor to the program. Drawing on extensive on-site experience, Kris understands the value in training and building up the next wave in the workforce. “I really enjoy bringing what I’ve learned in the field back to the apprenticeship program” Griffing said.

“One of the biggest draws to construction for me is the comradery. You develop a lot of relationships with people over time that become focused on mutual growth for all parties involved” said Kris. He noted that some of the hardest projects became the most rewarding, giving him a deep sense of community involvement and purpose. “The stable income doesn’t hurt either” Kris added with a smile.
